Christmas already ? ..............awwwwww mother !

Where have all of the shoppers gone ? This is the Quietest i've known Southport for 23 years in the run up to christmas! Maybe the snow we're promised this weekend will put everyone into christmas mode....or more likely it'll send them into hibernation :-)
How wonderful would that be , go to bed in november and wake up in the spring sensibly bypassing all of the bad weather, oh to be a bear eh ? .........instead of which come january we'll all be acting like a bear with a sore head !
Certainly it would seem that everyone's holding back a little bit this year.
One thing we can be certain of is a lack of xmas cheer from our local councils ,wouldn't it be a nice gesture to shoppers and a little bonus to local businesses if 'on street Pay and display' was suspended for the week running up to xmas.....i won't be holding my breath !

So what is new on our jewellery front, well most of my new designs are spoken for and i'm putting in some extra hours over the next few days to make sure i have a few interesting baubles on show in the shop, we have a few new additions to the Fiorelli Range of silver and some very nice murano glass and silver pandora style beads have just arrived. The elements gold range is as ever popular and there are some really modern designs at realistic and affordable prices.
I have one or two or three or four 18carat gold items at 'pre mental gold prices', i'm not going to point them out you'll have to come and find them for yourselves...... i know i'm a little tease but there you go ;-)
Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy, healthy and enjoyable christmas.
Best regards

welcome to phillips bloggery

Hello and thanks for taking time to read my first business blog, its all very informal here so if you wish to make yourselves comfy feel free... kick off the shoes and relax. those of my regular customers reading this will already know my background so nod off for a few ticks i'll give you a shout when something interesting is about to happen, to those of you not already bored to tears it goes like this ,I've just clocked up my 36th year as a goldsmith in the jewellery trade, I served my early jewellery years from 1973 with a respected Birmingham jewellery manufacturer, I then set up my own business in the Birmingham jewellery quarter in 1983,I'd always wanted the freedom to design and try new things but working for someone else sometimes makes this impossible, my early original designs were only supplied to the local Birmingham jewellery trade and friends and family.
In 1986 i moved up to Southport and began retailing from a small unit in Princes street, i then moved to my current shop at 6 Bold Street in november 1988, since then my wife and i have designed and handmade, in our own workshop on the premises, thousands of original one off pieces for customers all over the world. We have maintained our original business ethic of treating everyone as we would like to be treated ourselves ....although it sometimes helps i have a good sense of humour !........o.k who's snoring ? ...no?.. o.k !
Its been a long and enjoyable process of building up a loyal clientelle ...and as i'm a little bit off the 'beaten track'word of mouth has been our best advertising, only last month I supplied my first second generation handmade wedding ring to the son of one of my first Southport wedding ring customers, crikey that made me feel old I can tell you.
So here we are our first ever retail website at www.phillipgodfreydesignergoldsmith.co.uk
almost the longest url in the world but hopefully worth the effort typing it! The website is a bit barebones at the moment i'm on a steep learning curve so please bear with me, i'll be updating the blog as often as possible with useful information, totally useless information, news of new lines etc and my usual ramblings.
Have a good look around the site any comments / messages will be much appreciated.Any questions i'll get back to you asap
Our normal shop hours are Tues-Sat 10am -5pm so have a lie in... 10am is early enough for anyone don't you think !and we like a life too so with the exception of December we close on Sundays and Mondays.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, please pop back, or even better still call into the shop and have a good look around, you'll find our jewellery is quite different to most others on the high street, we promise not to pounce ,there is absolutely no pressure selling .....something i really dislike myself... as are the myriads of automated sales calls i get ......but thats the Victor Meldrew part of my blog later on !
best regards
phil.
